Funny Finds Friday

Hi Everyone. I cannot believe that it is December already! With December comes the holidays, which means that we will all be out shopping furiously for the perfect present. I know that the holiday season can be stressful, so I thought that I would show you some humorous presents that you might consider getting (or just laughing at).

The first one is something that you could buy your best friend, girlfriend, sister, mom, or even your grandma. It is perfect for the girl who cares about fashion, but still wants to be comfortable. You guessed it, its the Pajama Jeans. If you have not heard about these yet, do yourself a favor and watch the infomercial below.

I'm not going to lie. I'm actually kind of curious to see how these feel. I just want to know if they actually feel like pajamas and what kind of person would wear these out in public.

Next on the shopping list is something that my family has recently been obsessed with. I would not be surprised if there was one of these under our Christmas tree just so that we could laugh at the person while they wore it. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Forever Lazy.

Aren't you glad that they included bathroom break zippers? Because without those, I'm not sure that I would buy it!

Lastly, for all you December babies out there, I know that it can sometimes be rough having your birthday so close to the holidays. Sometimes you feel neglected and as my Dad says, like you don't get to have a real birthday. So, here's a video dedicated just to you.

Have a great Friday everyone, and don't forget to find the funny in your life!!

Laughing Through the Pain

They say that laughter is the best medicine. This past week I have been under the weather and have been trying to use laughter to make my days better. I thought that I would share some of the things that make me feel better when I am having a bad day, or not feeling good.

I can always turn to my favorite late night comics to find some good laughs when I need them. Recently, Jimmy Kimmel challenged his viewers to tell their kids that they ate all of their Halloween candy while they were sleeping and record their reactions. The submissions that he received were hilarious. I know that this video has been making the rounds, but it is definitely worth watching a second time if you have already seen it.

You can also watch the full video of the last two kids, my personal favorite, here.

My other favorite late night comic is Jimmy Fallon. He has so many good segments that always keep the show fresh and relevant. Two of my favorite segments are #latenighthashtags and Thank You Notes. Here is a video of Jimmy sharing some of his Thank You Notes and talking about the related book.

There are many more clips and full episodes of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Hulu.

Yesterday, I found a new way to find humor in my everyday life. I walked into my TV room to see my brother and his girlfriend watching some strange SyFy movie. When I inquired what the title of the movie, I was told that it was Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. We had inadvertedly stumbled upon one of the most unintentionally funny movies, full of bad writing and bad special effects. If you are looking for a good laugh, then look no further.

Bonus: Steve Urkel is one of the lead characters!!!

So, that was a glimpse of what I have been laughing at this week. Hope it made you feel better!!

HahaHappy Halloween

Halloween is a day where everyone gets dressed up and jacked up on sugar. There tends to be two ways that you can go with your costume selection: revealing or funny. While you can choose to go the revealing route, I think it is equally entertaining to come up with a humorous or clever costume. This post highlight the humor in Halloween.

First up is kids costumes and examples of what you should not dress your kid up as.

Whack-A-Mole, really? First of all, I'm not sure what kid would want to be whack-a-mole, and you are just asking for them to be punched in the face by some punk older kid who thinks that it is funny. Parents, lets just stay away from this costume for your kid.
Next up is Roadkill. This costume is a real ego booster for your child. I mean this is the only thing that you could think of when brainstorming ideas for their costume? Does your child really remind you of the dead animal on the side of the road? This is just creepy on so many levels.

For more costumes that you should avoid putting your children in, check out this article written by Jimmy Fallon's sister, Gloria.

Pets can be a great source of humor, and Halloween is no exception. While I normally object to dressing up your pet, I do think that Halloween costumes for dogs can be quite humorous. If you are planning on dressing up your dog, please do make sure that they are not uncomfortable and are able to move around in it. They do not need to suffer for our humor!

First up is a trio of Star Wars characters to show off the inner geek!
Those little hands just kill me! For more geeky pet costumes, check out this page.

This next one takes the creativity level up a couple of notches. Everything about it is just perfect. Although I do wonder if the dog is comfortable in it. If you would like to make your own Chia Pet dog costume, there are directions here.

To wrap things up, here is a list of last minute costume ideas if anyone still needs a costume for tonight:
- Wear your college t-shirt, put a name tag on, and go as a Price Is Right constestant
- Get a box of cereal, toy knife, and go as a "Cereal Killer"
- Blow up a bunch of green or purple balloons and cover yourself with them, go as a bunch of grapes

Hope you guys have a Happy Halloween. What are you guys dressing up as? Have you seen any other funny costumes? Let me know if the comment section below!

Humor in the Workplace

Using humor in your everyday life can be important to help you relieve stress, solve problems, and build relationships with others. But when it comes to using humor in your workplace, it can be hard to know when using humor is appropriate. There is research that shows that humor is a positive thing, but in the workplace there needs to be some filters for the content of the humor and who you are using it with.

When you use humor, you are using cognitive functions to solve the incongruity of the jokes or produce the humor. Karen Klein talks about this in her article, "Humor in the Workplace" and says that people who use these cognitive functions more, often tend to be more intelligent and more creative, which are positive traits for an employee to have. Humor also has a social aspect to it, causing the people involved in the humor to form a bond through humor. In a workplace, it is always good to have a good relationship with your co-workers, which humor can help you achieve.

However, there are some things that you should not do when using humor in the office. Elizabeth Smith offers some Do's and Don't of Office Humor:
- DO Think about the message of the joke.
- DO Know your audience of who you are using humor with. It is a lot different if you are joking around with a co-worker versus your boss.
-DON'T Talk about controversial topics. This is just asking for trouble.
- DON'T use humor if you are unsure of how it will be received.

The best tip that she gave about office humor was to emulate Seinfeld, not The Office. Seinfeld shows more conversational humor about everyday things. The humor in that show doesn't generally target people for their gender, race, sexuality, or other personal traits. The Office on the other hand tends to be funny because of how offensive it is. I think that we can all agree that this would not be appropriate office behavior.

So, remember that humor is a great tool in the workplace to help reduce stress and build relationships, but like everything else, should be used in moderation.

Funny Finds Friday

Happy Friday Everyone! Welcome to the first installment of Funny Finds Friday. On Fridays, I will be highlighting funny things from around the web that I have found throughout the week. Some weeks may have a theme, and other weeks may just be a collection of random funniness. Hopefully, these posts will be fun and enjoyable for all of you.

First up this week is a note from the now bankrupt Borders bookstore.

There's nothing like a good passive aggressive note to make you feel better about your condition. I'm sure we all could think of some people that we would like to write a note like this to!

Next, a llama gives a soldier in Iraq its blessing.
Llama kisses soldier
I wonder if the llama's name is Dolly? That would explain why he was so loving.

Finally, a little girl and a monkey remind us to never trust anyone.
That's it for this edition of Funny Finds Friday. Hope you all enjoyed it. Have a great weekend, and remember to find the funny in your life!

Welcome To My Blog

Hi everyone, just wanted to give a quick introduction to myself and what this blog will be like. I am a Senior at Canisius College with a Major in Communication Studies and a minor in Sociology. I chose the topic of humor for a blog because I am currently taking a communication course titled Constructive Uses of Humor. Throughout the course we are supposed to be keeping a journal of things that we find funny in our everyday lives. I thought that a blog would be a perfect outlet to share my funny finds with other people and would a great place to share humor.

In my opinion, humor is essential for living a good life. I have a very sarcastic sense of humor and am often cracking jokes. I hope that this blog will be a place where I can show you some interesting aspects of humor use as well as show you some of the funny things that I find. Like this picture that I found on the internet:
Maybe the Airport Plaza Jewelers guy should try this approach.                                            (Source:

So, if you like laughing and finding humor in everyday life, this is the blog for you. I hope that you will enjoy the humor and share your funny finds with me as well!
